Trace Inference, Curvature Consistency, and Curve Detection

چکیده
We describe a novel approach to curve inference based on curvature information. The inference procedure is divided into two stages: a trace inference stage, to which this paper is devoted, and a curve synthesis stage, which will be treated in a separate paper. It is shown that recovery of the trace of a curve requires estimating local models for the curve at the same time, and that tangent and curvature information are sufficient. These make it possible to specify powerful constraints between estimated tangents to a curve, in terms of a neighborhood relationship called cocircularity and between curvature estimates, in terms of a curvature consistency relation. Because all curve information is quantized, special care must be taken to obtain accurate estimates of trace points, tangents and curvatures. This issue is addressed specifically by the introduction of a smoothness constraint and a maximum curvature constraint. The procedure is applied to two types of images, artificial images designed to evaluate curvature and noise sensitivity, and natural images. 3 D curve inference for diffusion MRI regularization and fibre tractography q
We develop a differential geometric framework for regularizing diffusion MRI data. The key idea is to model white matter fibres as 3D space curves and to then extend Parent and Zucker’s 2D curve inference approach [Parent, P., Zucker, S., 1989. Trace inference, curvature consistency, and curve detection. IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence 11, 823–839] by using a noti...
متن کاملSketches with Curvature: The Curve Indicator Random Field and Markov Processes
There are two fundamental aspects in the contour enhancement of noisy and low contrast curve images such as edge or line operator responses. The first is the inference mechanism and the second is the order of the curve model. To obtain an inference mechanism, we introduce a formal model of sketches called the curve indicator random field whose role is to provide a basis for defining edge likeli...
متن کاملRolling Construction for Anisotropic Delaunay Surfaces
Anisotropic Delaunay surfaces are surfaces of revolution with constant anisotropic mean curvature. We show how the generating curves of such surfaces can be obtained as the trace of a point held in a fixed position relative to a curve which is rolled without slipping along a line. This generalizes the classical construction for surfaces of revolution with constant mean curvature due to Delaunay...
متن کاملMagnetic Curves: Curvature-Controlled Aesthetic Curves Using Magnetic Fields
We describe “magnetic curves”, a particle-tracing method that creates curves with constantly changing curvature. It is well known that charged particles in a constant magnetic field trace out circular or helical trajectories. Motivated by John Ruskin’s advice to use variation in curvature to achieve aesthetic curves, we propose to continuously change the charge on a simulated particle so that i...
متن کاملDiffeomorphisms of the Circle and Hyperbolic Curvature
The trace Tf of a smooth function f of a real or complex variable is defined and shown to be invariant under conjugation by Möbius transformations. We associate with a convex curve of class C2 in the unit disk with the Poincaré metric a diffeomorphism of the circle and show that the trace of the diffeomorphism is twice the reciprocal of the geodesic curvature of the curve. Then applying a theor...
